A Statistical Study on the Oral Health in Handicapped Children

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to provide information of the oral health status in handicapped children by considering the DMF, df and oral hygiene index.
The author examined 403 handicapped children and compared with 383 normal children, between 5 and 15 years of age.
The result were follows
1. In the permanent teeth, the dental caries incidence of the handicapped children (DMF rate 50.52%, DMFT rate 5.72%, DMFT index 0.99) showed higher than that of normal children(DMF rate 40.23%, DMFT rate 4.26%, DMFT index 0.74).
2. In the deciduous teeth, the caries incidence of the handicapped children (df rate 51.901/o, dit rate 8.760/o, ditindex 1.42) showed lower than that of normal children(df rate 66.67%, dit rate 13.860/o, dit index 2.28).
3. The status of oral hygiene in handicapped children was worse than that of - normal children.
4. The cerebral palsied had the worst oral health status among the handicapped children.
5. In this study, we consider that continuous and active dental enlightment for oral health of the handicapped children are necessary,
